NYC Chiropractor’s Approach to Pain Relief Confirmed in Study

NEW YORK, March 8, 2018

An estimated 80 percent of the population will suffer lower back pain at some time in their lives. It’s the second most common reason for a visit to the doctor’s office and the third biggest reason for surgeries.

Despite those facts, traditional non-surgical treatments have delivered only limited success, according to a peer-reviewed study in the medical journal, BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders. The study was authored by leading medical researchers, including Dr. Christian Apfel, MD, PhD, MBA, whose research has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine and other highly prestigious medical journals.

The study – Restoration of disk height through non-surgical spinal decompression is associated with decreased discogenic low back pain – shows for the first time a link between disc height and pain. Using Excite Medical’s DRX9000TM technology, patients in the study received six weeks of treatment, resulting in a significant increase in disc height (measured in pre- and post-CT scans) and a corresponding decrease in lower back pain.

“These findings reflect what we see in our patients,” commented Dr. Steven Shoshany, founder of NYC Chiropractic and Spinal Decompression Center. “We were an early adopter of the DRX9000 TM system and it has provided our patients with a reliable non-surgical and drug-free answer for disc related syndromes of the lumbar,” he said.

“Today with so many pain suffers becoming unwittingly addicted to pain killers, I believe that the DRX treatment and other non-surgical, drug-free treatments are critical in reversing the opioid epidemic,” Shoshany continued.

“In addition to the results they report in the BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders study, we have found DRX treatment effective in degenerative, or ruptured discs, as well as sciatica, posterior facet syndrome, and many failed back surgery cases,” he said. “I believe the system is effective because it allows doctors to accurately target treatment to the injured area.”

“Having been a chiropractor in New York City for more than 20 years, I’ve learned that to stay competitive and best serve my patients, not only do I need to provide excellent clinical results, I have to stay up on the latest, most innovative trends in the field,” he said. “That’s why I brought the DRX9000 TM into my practice and why I was so pleased to see the study back up what we have found to be true with our patients.”

Dr. Steven Shoshany’s Chiropractic and Spinal Decompression Center is located in the NoHo, Manhattan in New York City. Dr. Shoshany is often called to comment on a wide range of medical issues and has appeared on the Today Show, CBS New York, Dr. Oz, Fox News and other media outlets.
