D. Christopher Heckman joins Berkeley Research Group
DALLAS, February 1, 2018
Global strategic advisory and expert consulting firm Berkeley Research Group announced today the addition of D. Christopher Heckman to the firm’s Complex Insurance Claims practice. Heckman, who joins as a managing director in BRG’s Dallas office, was previously general counsel of ExxonMobil Risk Management Inc. and its captive insurer, Ancon Insurance Company.
“We are excited to welcome Chris to BRG,” said BRG Chairman and Principal Executive Officer David J. Teece. “He brings valuable industry experience to clients seeking strategic assistance with large-scale, complex insurance claims and matters.”
Jeff Mitchell, a leader of BRG’s Complex Insurance Claims practice, said, “Chris brings a unique perspective and expertise informed by his 25 years of experience with risk and insurance issues for ExxonMobil as a policyholder and for Ancon as a captive insurer.”
“BRG provides world-class resources to support the complex needs of our clients,” said Heckman. “The deep expertise across the firm is outstanding and uniquely positions us to advise on our clients’ most challenging issues.”
For the past 25 years, Heckman was the principal insurance claims adviser to ExxonMobil and its global affiliates. In that role, he managed and facilitated some of the largest liability insurance claims ever made, including the Exxon Valdez and global environmental and asbestos claims of Exxon, Mobil and ExxonMobil. He also served as an officer of Ancon. He is a frequent speaker and author on insurance and risk management issues nationally.
Heckman, who received his JD from Tulane University School of Law, practiced in the area of marine insurance disputes at Haight, Gardner, Poor & Havens (now Holland & Knight) before joining ExxonMobil.
